I tried not to let the rejection hurt me too much, but it did. I gave up everything on a dream that I should have recognized as unattainable. Deep down, I always knew that Carlisle would never leave Esme, their perfect manicured life with the mansion and the 2.5 kids.
What did I have to offer him?
A baby that hadn’t been planned (and I still wasn’t sure was wanted), no degree, no plans for the future.
Looking at it that way, I could see the situation for what it really was, and always had been: a one-sided booty call. I needed him, but he sure as Hell could replace me.
