Momentary

Under the water, my heartbeat is a warm, wet thud that reverberates throughout my whole body.

Every small movement of my limbs sounds like a roaring hum.

My nose is above the surface, and each breath I draw sounds thunderous in my own ears.

Blood rushes through my veins like a storm, but on the outside, all is serene and still.

Hair floats around me like dark seaweed, and I feel like Ophelia, minus the suicidal tendencies.

Out there, people in my life all need something from me.

But not here.

Down here, for just this moment, I am free.
